ROOM 3
MINI PROJECT

ANCIENT CIVILIZATION NEWS WORLD
Due Friday 20 November 2009
REMEMBER YOU CAN ADD YOUR PROJECT TO YOUR WIKI PAGE.
Introduction

Congratulations! You and three of your classmates have been chosen to become editors/reporters for The World Time Traveler News. You will embark on a great adventure through time, visit one of many ancient world cultures, and report back.
The Task
You and your group need to create a newspaper for a chosen time period. Each member of your group will be an editor and responsible for creating a section of The World Time Traveler News. You and the other editors will be designing and creating a unique paper by using Internet web sites. Within the newspaper, you will be including general information about the destination, areas of historical, recreational interest, and what a typical day was like. Remember, first impressions are always the most lasting, so you will want to catch your reader's eye with pictures and graphics.
The Process
1. The first thing that you and your colleagues need to do is decide on the destination / time period for which you will create The World Time Traveler News. Look over the list of resources and select a destination that you think you would be interested in researching. Hold a group meeting to decide which destination you will journey to and report on.
2. As a group, examine the resource links and a current newspaper to determine how a paper is put together. You will also find a resource for creating quality questions.

3. Next, your group needs to distribute the following roles:
Front Page Editor | Showcase Editor | Home and Travel Section | Business Section

Front Page Editor: This section contains reports on the important people and events of the time period. The editor could include the following in their section:

An imaginary interview with an important person from this period
  • Report on major events and their effects
  • Report on inventions and innovations
  • Report on the conflicts and government
  • Medical advancements
:
This section reports on what was done for recreation and enjoyment. The editor could include the following:

  • Games and directions for playing
  • Sporting events
  • Information about the music, art, and literature of the time
  • Holidays celebrated
  • Cultural practices

This section reports on home life and transportation. The editor could include the following:

  • A typical day including shopping for food, taking care of the children, schools, cleaning, etc.
  • Report on this periods way of life
  • Methods of transportation
  • Architecture
  • Housing
  • Meals
:
This section reports on jobs and careers. The editor could include the following:

  • Jobs and careers
  • The running of shops, markets, and businesses
  • Influential business people
  • Changes in industry and farming
4. Once the roles have been distributed, each member should visit the websites and any other resources they can find to compile information and images to create a sparkling section of The World Time Traveler News.

Evaluation
You will be evaluated individually based on the newspaper section you wrote. You will also be evaluated as a collaborative group on the newspaper project presentation.
